Perhaps one of the best results in the West Midlands for the Liberal Democrats and all credit should go to the whole team there, including Lorely Burt MP and Claire O'Kane. We were facing a tough fight and could have lost a few seats. Instead we held all of our own seats and Tim Hodgson took Shirley South and Leela Widger took Silhill.

The Conservatives have lost overall control of the Council now, this is an area where the Tories put a lot of time and effort in and would have to win to win at the General Election - all of which bodes well for Lorely.

There was also a fear the BNP would add to their seat in the north of the borough but they didn't.
