Warwick results4.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 21st May 2007 On third time of counting, on Tuesday, we got a result from Warwick! There was supposed to be electronic counting but it ended up being manual. In spite of a very strong campaign from the Conservatives and with Labour fighting back we held all of our previously held wards in the Town & District. In Milverton, Sydney Tyrrell and Nick Pittarello were newly elected, replacing Margaret Begg and Chris Davies who have stood down. We also newly elected Yvonne Moore to the town council, replacing one of our councillors who has stood down. In Clarendon in spite of a hard campaign against the incumbent Labour Party we managed to get Robert Cunliffe and Nicole Alexander elected to the Town Council a net gain and narrowly missed winning in the District as well by 6 votes! In Manor we were under attack from the Tories and held our ground winning with a 2.8% increase share of the vote, we also newly elected Simon Wheeler to the Town Council, replacing Iain Jermond who sadly died a couple of weeks ago . In Crown, Alan Boad & Cliff Harris were re-elected with over 61% of the vote. This means that we have taken control of Leamington Town Council. On the District Council, we are now level with Labour, who suffered some losses in Warwick, on 9 seats each. The Conservatives have a slim majority of 2 seats overall. It is interesting to note from the statistics that whilst the Conservatives had a 4% swing in Warwick, they actually had a slightly reduced vote share in Leamington, (where they still have no councillors on anything) down almost 1% in our targets. The biggest gainers in all of this were the Green Party, who made gains across most of the wards, up 5% across the two towns and giving us a run for our money in Milverton with an increase of 10%, they won no seats though, we need to watch this, though we have a strong Green agenda on the town which will help in the future.
