End the travelling circus of Strasbourg

4.28.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 27th Jun 2007

As you may be aware I have been campaigning against the ridiculous nature of the European Parliament having two homes - one in Brussels and one in Stasbourg, having signed the petition at www.oneseat.eu and through my lobbying. I was pleased to see that a surveys has shown a majority of MEPs agree the travelling circus should be scrapped - 89% want a single Parliament..

It is not just the financial cost of the travel that is obscene but the environmental costs are sky-high too.It is thought that having Strasbourg and the travel pumps the same amount of C02 into the atmosphere as 4,000 London homes - at least 20,000 tons - and undermines the European Union's credibility on green issues, according to a report commissioned by the the UK's two Green MEPs, and conducted by John Whitelegg, professor of sustainable transport at the Stockholm Environment Institute at the University of York.
