English Council and the Poverty Paper

6.40.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Sat 30th Jun 2007

Earlier today I attended the English Council Meeting, which I sit on for the West Midlands Liberal Democrats. We are now half way through the year so the Chair was able to give a fairly good progress report and of course we discussed what has been a very political week! I asked a question of the English Council representative the Federal Policy Committee about the party's Poverty policy paper and proposed motion to Federal Conference.

For those that have not read the policy paper there is an either/or option on the Minimum Wage regarding treating everyone as equals or accepting the age bands that Labour introduced. Our current policy is to treat everyone the same and I am strongly against the age bands and worry that the policy working group is trying to shift us somewhat.
