Virgin lose franchise to Arriva

Virgin has lost its Cross Country franchise to Arriva. Sadly Arriva have also been given permission to increase the fares by 3.4%

Inquiries continue into bus crash

Inquiries are continuing into a bus crash which left one woman dead and five more people injured.

Jean Crump, 65, died when an Arriva bus went the wrong way down a one-way street colliding with a bus and other vehicles in Walsall, West Midlands.

Arriva spokesman Keith Myatt said inquiries were focusing on why the driver went the wrong way.

Services are now back to normal following Monday's incident. No-one has been arrested.

On-going investigation

A 59-year-old woman who suffered injuries to her ankles and head remains in hospital.

The others are described as having minor injuries.

Keith Myatt, of Arriva, said the bus, a local service, had been leaving its departure point in the bus station when it turned left, the wrong way.

"We need to find out why the vehicle took the turning to the left and left the bus station concourse and that is part of our ongoing investigation

"Bus travel is a safe way of travelling.

"This is an isolated incident and we need to get to the bottom of it and find out the cause of the accident," he said.
