The Monks demonstrating in Burma need international support, we need to tell the Burmese junta that they need to reform, stop persecuting the Burmese people and democratic elections need to take place.

Police have already been sent in to disperse demonstrators in Rangoon and have been opening fire on the protesters. It is rumoured two monks and a civilian have died of gunshot wounds, there is almost certainly more bloodshed to come. In 1988 over 3,000 people were massacred, this cannot be allowed to happen again.

China has a major role to play in bring economic pressure on the junta, just as they can with the Darfur situation, Earlier in the year China voted against allowing the UN to negotiate with the regime.
