Liberal Democrat Leadership candidate Chris Huhne MP writes for www.colin-ross.org.uk7.04.08pm UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 8th Nov 2007
I am standing for the Leadership of the Liberal Democrats because I believe I can lead our Party to the breakthrough we need - the breakthrough that Britain and the West Midlands needs. I believe our party offers a genuine alternative - nothing less than a Liberal Revolution which will give genuine power to people and their communities. As a Party, we are at our best when we are bold, independent and distinctive. That means offering radical solutions to current problems. · It means cancelling the Trident upgrade and using the money to equip our troops properly for peace-making and peace-keeping. · It means public services that are accountable locally - not dabbling with school vouchers and US-style health care. · It means speaking up for the most vulnerable in society. A society should be judged on how it treats those in need. Above all else it means speaking up on climate change. We must speak up about what can be done to curb Britain's greenhouse emissions. And we must speak out to help developing countries. We can help them grow and prosper whilst respecting the environment. We must do all of this and more if we are to save this planet for all our children and their future. Give me your support and as your Leader I will get the Liberal Democrat message on the front page of not only local papers here in the West Midlands but in the national newspapers, on TV and on radio. This is where we belong. Leading the political debate. Leading a Liberal Revolution for Britain.
