Earlier this week I happened to notice the Liberal Democrats were the biggest gainers in Local Government by-elections during 2007.

The Liberal Democrats had a net gain of 8 seats

Labour a net gain of 2 seats

SNP a net gain of 1seat

Conservatives had a net loss of 4 seats

The BNP had a net lose of 1 seat

and 'Others' had a net loss of 6 seats
