Liberal Democrats lose in Newton By-election

Last night the Liberal Democrats lost in a by-election in Newton Ward in Sandwell, a Ward that had been held by the Liberals and Liberal Democrats since 1980.

The Full Result (after one recount):

Labour 844 votes - 36.9%

Kay Alcock - Liberal Democrat - 809 votes - 35.4%

Conservative 587 votes - 25.9%

Green 45 votes - 2.0%

Turnout 27.5%
