Remembrance Day Public Holiday

1.15.41pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 12th Feb 2008

I have been asked to highlight a petition on the 10 Downing Street website asking for a bank holiday on the second Monday in November. It would be a Bank Holiday for Remembrance Day.

I personally don't think this a very good idea, any Bank Holiday will not remember those that gave their lives but will be used for DIY, drinking and everything else that Bank Holidays are currently used for. I do however think we should have a Bank Holiday around this time - either the Monday after last weekend in October or the first weekend in November.

The petition is at http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/remembermonday/
