Obama and McCain both win two1.15.00pm GMT Wed 20th Feb 2008 Yesterday saw both Barack Obama and John McCain win in two contests, Obama in Wisconsin and Hawaii and McCain in Wisconsin and Washington. McCain is now if not mathematically almost certainly assured of the Republican nomination. The Democrat nomination could still go either way but Obama must now be favourite and I suspect would be virtually guaranteed if he beats Clinton in either Ohio and Texas. Obama has now won all ten of the last contests (even better than I predicted). In Wisconsin Obama beat Clinton 58% to 41%, McCain won the Republic contest with 55% to Huckabee's 37% and Paul's 5%. In Hawaii Obama stormed it with 76% to Clinton's 24%. In Washington McCain won with 49%, Huckabee got 22% and Paul 7%. In terms of delegates for the Democrats the New York Times says Clinton is still ahead 1081 to Obama's 1078. AP however has Obama ahead on 1319 to Clinton's 1245, as does CNN but on slightly different figures - Obama 1301 and Clinton 1239. 2025 are needed to win. In terms of delegates for the Republicans the New York Times says McCain has 808, AP says 942 and CNN 918 which is virtually there with 1191 being the winning number.
