I was asked whilst on Wolverhampton Community Radio on Friday about proposals in Portugal to ban small political parties. Apparently a new law comes into force in Portugal in March 2008 that states political parties must have 5000 registered members or they will be declared illegal.

If this is the case it is an amazing attack on democracy, if this was happening in Zimbabwe or China, Russia or in Venezuela to name just a few places we would be up in uproar.

The right to form political parties must be guaranteed in any democracy!
