Are the Liberal Democrats breaking the law?

4.22.52pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 25th Mar 2008

I doubt the Liberal Democrats are breaking the law, mainly because I would have thought someone would have checked but...

Today sees the launch of something called Liberal Youth, which is the new name for the Liberal Democrat Youth and Students. My query is that the youth (and student) wing of the party is an accounting unit of the Liberal Democrats but is using the name of another registered political party - the Liberal Party.

As I say I guess (or should that be hope) that someone checked the legality, and it may be clear to us they are the youth (and student) wing of the Liberal Democrats, it may even become clear to the public, but does the Liberal Party have no youth wing, is it right for the youth (and student) wing of the Liberal Democrats to appear to cover the youth politics of all Liberals?
