Liberal Democrats launch Local Election campaign3.30.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 4th Apr 2008
The Liberal Democrats have a record to be proud of in local government, said Nick Clegg. He was speaking at the launch of party's campaign for council elections in England and Wales. The Lib Dems are defending about 700 seats in the 1 May elections. Speaking at the campaign launch in Sheffield, he accused Labour of failing on crime and the Tories of having "no stomach" for addressing green issues. Liberal Democrat Leader Nick Clegg said "Our campaign will focus on the positive benefits that Liberal Democrat government has brought to local communities throughout England and Wales - quality services, and value for money. And we are ready to apply the lessons that we have learned to councils throughout this country. On May 1st if it is real change that you want: don't follow Labour's trail of broken promises to the polling station; don't be beguiled by David Cameron's brand of political fakery. Take a look at the Liberal Democrats and make your vote count for real change for your community."
