Zahid Shah nearly topples Labour Leader in St Peters

2.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 2nd May 2008

The Leader of the Labour Group on Wolverhampton Council was a worried man at the count as he saw his once massive majority melt away under the heat on Zahid's Shah's campaign in St. Peter's Ward. It was only at the last box that he realised he had beaten Zahid by just 153 votes. This is Zahid's first attempt at contesting an election and as St. Peter's has been a traditionally safe Labour seat this is a sensational result. Zahid is determined to carry on the campaign and take the seat at the next election in 2010.
