Liberal Democrats win key concessions for the people of Wolverhampton11.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 8th May 2008
Liberal Democrat Councillors on Wolverhampton City Council have won a number of key concessions to improve the lives of the residents of Wolverhampton. Liberal Democrat Group Leader Councillor Mike Heap said "The Liberal Democrat members met earlier this week to discuss how we could improve Wolverhampton. On Wednesday we were prepared to discuss our suggestions with both the Conservatives and Labour. Only the Conservatives approached us, as a result we discussed with them how we can work together to build a better Wolverhampton." The Liberal Democrats and Conservatives discussed a number of issues, with the Liberal Democrats winning a number of key concessions, amongst the concessions won were: Retention and enhancement of the Neighbourhood Warden Scheme, which will lead to a safer Wolverhampton for many residents. A review of youth facilities across the city giving the youth of Wolverhampton more choice in their activities, helping to combat anti-social behaviour and helping to improve community cohesion. A feasibility study for a full roll-out of the kerbside plastic and cardboard recycling scheme, helping to work towards a greener Wolverhampton. The Liberal Democrats will be supporting the Conservatives at the next Council's meeting, following that Council meeting the Liberal Democrats will vote on an issue by issue basis for the people of Wolverhampton.
