More Scottish woe for Labour

12.51.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Sat 28th Jun 2008

In case you thought it couldn't get any worse for Labour, it just did.

Firstly Wendy Alexander has had to resign as Labour Leader over dodgy donations and secondly David Marshall is resigning as an MP giving Labour the opportunity to lose another by-election.

Glasgow East should be safe with a 43.7% majority but at the moment I wouldn't bet on Labour!

The full result was:

David Marshall, Labour 18,775 60.7

Lachlan McNeill, Scottish National Party 5,268 17.0

David Jackson, Liberal Democrat 3,665 11.9

Carl Thomson, Conservative 2,135 6.9

George Savage, Scottish Socialist Party 1,096 3.5

Turnout: 48.2 %
