Eddy Grant

On Saturday I went to see Eddy Grant play at the Wulfrun Hall. Wolverhampton was one of the stops on Eddy's Road to Reparation tour, which included playing Glastonbury and Nelson Mandela's 90th Birthday concert.

Eddy was on top form and far exceeded my expectations. He took us through a retrospective of his music culminating in his three biggest hits 'Gimme hope Jo'anna', 'Electric Avenue' and 'I don't wanna dance' he whilst he may not have wanted to dance the audience did! He also dedicated one of his songs to the liberation leaders of the third world - mentioning of course Mandela but particularly highlighting the less well know men and women that fought for their rights.

Eddy clearly had a number of very dedicated fans in the audience with a few calling for him to strip when he said he was hot, Grant clearly embarrassed tried to make light of his sex-appeal and deflected the attention on to his dancers.

Eddy played non-stop for two hours giving the audience more than value for their money, the time just flew by with everyone enjoying themselves. Eddy recalled previous visits to Wolverhampton and I hope he doesn't wait another twenty years before playing the UK again!
