Wolverhampton Liberal Democrat Councillor Claire Darke has called on Government to support the Great Britain Deaflympic team.

The Labour Government has recently withdrawn funding for the Great Britain Deaflympic team. The team were due to compete in the Deaflympic Games in September 2009 but are now struggling due to the cut in funds.

Councillor Claire Darke said "I am calling on the Government to reinstate the funds. The Deaflympics is, after the Olympics, the second oldest multi-sport and cultural event on earth. The Liberal Democrats are calling on everyone to support the Deaflympics by signing the online petition at www.ukdeafsport.org.uk"
