Wolverhampton Liberal Democrats have launched an online petition to save Post Offices at risk of closure. The petition calls on the Government to halt the closures, you can sign the petition at http://www.wolverhamptonlibdems.org.uk/petitions/

The Royal Mail is proposing to close five Post Offices in Wolverhampton in its latest round of closures. The five Post Offices are: Newhampton Road West Office, Upper Penn Post Office on Penn Road, Prestwood Road Post Office, Villiers Avenue Post Office in Bilston and Portobello Post Office on Willenhall Road

Whilst there may sometimes be a case for closure, many of these Post Offices offer a real service to the community and the Liberal Democrats across Wolverhampton are taking action to see which Post Offices can be saved.

Councillors Claire Darke and Robin Lawrence have started their own consultation in the area around the Newhampton Road West Post Office to fully understand the usage of the Post Office and what impact its closure will have. The nearest post offices branches remaining will be at the Avion Centre and in Tettenhall.

June Hemsley is leading the battle to save the Upper Penn Post Office. June launched the petition to save the Upper Penn Post Office just over a week ago and has already had a fantastic response, including signatures from all the residents of the nearby Penndene Court sheltered accommodation. The nearest office remaining will be at Penn Village. June said "There are very strong feelings about this, a small change in distance will have a big impact on a lot of people."

Campaigner Daren Friel is also undertaking consultation regarding the Portobello Post Office on Willenhall Road - the nearest post office branches remaining will be in Bunkers Hill Bilston, John Street Willenhall and the Old Heath branch on Willenhall Road.
