Wolverhampton Liberal Democrat witnesses historic Obama victory

Chair of Wolverhampton South West Liberal Democrats Colin Ross was in Florida to see the Democrats take back the state and Barack Obama become the first African-American elected President of the United States.

Colin who has been on a working holiday helping the Democrats get their vote out, said, "The atmosphere has been electric - there has been a real feeling of history in the making. It has been such an honour to share the night with all Americans but especially black Americans, who a generation ago were not allowed to vote let alone be Presidential candidates. Barack Obama's victory demonstrates we live in a world where people from any background can succeed."

Colin has been working with a number of Liberal Democrats from the UK and Democrats from American in support of Obama's victorious campaign.

"I have been knocking on doors with Swedes, Germans, Swiss and other British volunteers. The last eight years has demonstrated how our lives are affected by the US President, and we have all been enthused by Barack Obama. I am sure I will not agree with everything he says and does, but the world feels it's going to be a better and safer place with Obama as President."
